We take three stages of musical mastery, mind tingling workshops and place it upon a beautiful landscape sprinkled heavily with art and splendour. Then we mix it with serious dance-off competitions and ridiculous games. Next we throw in two handfuls of culinary and market-type vendors. Finally we spread it onto a thick layer of beautiful happy people and bake it in the sun for three days.

Our secret ingredient? You.

This is not a spectator festival. We want the full flavour! Spice yourself up, unleash your full zest. Grind down, rise up and savour it all.

This is a family friendly festival, and kids under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. This an excellent "staycation" for end of summer fun in the valley!

$75.00

"A Patient Fisherman". The print is 20" x 26" on 100% rag paper, hand-pulled silkscreen print madewith 6 screens.

James (Jim) H. Morris 1943-2014Jim Morris began his art career early with photography and sketching in his home town of Yellowknife during the 1950’s.  He started following his artistic path at UBC, taking fine arts and education courses, graduating with a B.Ed..

He taught for many years in BC smaller towns like Stewart before retiring - only after setting up a full hands-on printing course program in Vanderhoof high school. Retirement really meant just another art adventure.  After a move to Courtenay Jim re-started a closed screen printing business and started commercial screen printing for the Comox Valley.

Between running the business and hundreds of printing orders for the community, Jim did his own painting, drawing, political cartoons and serigraphs. His great love of nature is reflected in the subjects chosen for his serigraphs:  Sea Otters, Blue Heron, Steller’s Jay, hummingbirds, Orcas, Humpback and Blue Whales among others.

Jim’s legacy lives on in his prints, paintings and many multi-media pieces which can be enjoyed in the Silver Bowerbird Gallery above Hitec Screen Printing-Brazen Sportswear,  4th St., downtown Courtenay.

90533 $50.00 7 $90.00

Winning Bid Amount

$90.00

You are bidding on an original painting, titled “Salt Spring Sailaway,” by Comox Valley Artist, Martha Jablonski-Jones.

Acrylic on canvas. This is 12” x 12” unframed . Value $250.

I love the urban landscape–the rich textures, smells, and sounds of things weathered and imprinted by time and human occupation. People don’t often appear in my paintings, but they’ve clearly inhabited the spaces. You can see it in the small-scale intimacy of a beckoning doorway, side street, or hidden courtyard: an empty chair can suggest a hundred stories.

Then there’s the massive energy of the city itself–the industrial sites, the humming highrises, the hydro lines and electrical transformers. It’s the materialization of power, yet overlays an older, more primeval elemental power. The natural elements are constant reminders of what is beyond our control or even awareness, even as they lay under our feet and in the air around us. It’s interesting to inject a little pantheism into a city scene.

Frequent visits to the southwest have also motivated a more playful second stream of imagery, incorporating funky Americana and vintage signage. The common thread is an affinity for the character, texture, and emotional feel of old things and places, the memory of who and what has gone just before.

I work in acrylic on canvas, and would call myself a contemporary realist, currently represented by Red Art Gallery in Victoria and Artemis in Deep Cove, North Vancouver.

You are bidding on a $50 Gift Certificate and a copy of Gumboot Girls: Adventure, Love & Survival on the North Coast of British Columbia, by Jane Wilde. (Total value $75)

Forty years ago, droves of young women migrated away from urban settings and settled in rural areas across North America. Many settled on the north coast of British Columbia, on Haida Gwaii or around Prince Rupert. GUMBOOT GIRLS tells the stories of thirty-four women, through their own eyes, as they moved from their comfortable city-dwelling surroundings to the rugged north coast. Part back-to-the-land, part adventure, heartbreak and love, this collection of stories edited by Lou Allison and compiled by Jane Wilde was inspired by the book GIRLS LIKE US by Sheila Weller. Wilde, the creator of the collection, encouraged, prodded and cajoled her friends (and some of their friends) to tell the story of a generation of young women who flocked to the north coast of BC in the 1970s.

DESOLATION SOUND YACHT CHARTERS LTD

Approx value $100.00

At Desolation Sound Yacht Charters we believe there is nothing more enjoyable and exhilarating than sailing or power boating on a charter yacht. You decide when you wish to sail, swim, collect shellfish or just relax on deck. A yacht charter vacation combines the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility, stimulation and relaxation. When you charter from us you will enjoy the benefits of our ideal location in Comox on central Vancouver Island, excellent selection of SAIL & POWER yachts, great facilities and personal service. We are committed to ensuring that your charter runs smoothly from start to finish.

The cruising area of Desolation Sound is only a 4-6 hour passage from our charter base. Many experienced yachtsmen regard the Desolation Sound area as not only the most beautiful and varied cruising area in British Columbia, but equal to, if not better than, any other area in the world. Many charterers also explore close by Toba Inlet, Princess Louisa Inlet, and cruise north to the Broughton Archipelago.

Warm summer temperatures and the meeting of the tides jointly cause the Comox-Desolation Sound region to enjoy the mildest climate, richest sea life and warmest water on the British Columbia coast. Water temperatures in the Sound often exceed 75°F (22°C) from June through September and warm, dry weather conditions are dominant in these months.

Winning Bid Amount

$155.00

You are bidding on a gift certificate for this day cruise for two people.

On the Nootka Sound Day Cruise, the MV Uchuck III departs Tuesdays from Gold River, BC to provide freight and passenger service throughout the many inlets and waterways of historic Nootka Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

This one-day marine cruise allows you to experience the day-to-day activities of a working marine vessel first hand as it makes deliveries to logging camps, fishing lodges and other remote marine outposts. During the summer months, this cruise includes a brief stop at Friendly Cove to pick up kayakers, hikers and other passengers for the return trip to Gold River.

Along the route passengers can expect to see a variety of marine life from bald eagles to sea lions, sea otters and on occasion, even whales. You might have the opportunity to see a kayak ‘wet launch’ when they are lowered on a raft from the ship’s deck at a remote location along the route. Make sure to bring your camera, tablet or cellphone, whatever is your preferred way to take photos or videos of your trip aboard the MV Uchuck III. Stops are made if the vessel comes across a raft of sea otters or whales along the route.
