"A Patient Fisherman". The print is 20" x 26" on 100% rag paper, hand-pulled silkscreen print madewith 6 screens.

James (Jim) H. Morris 1943-2014Jim Morris began his art career early with photography and sketching in his home town of Yellowknife during the 1950’s.  He started following his artistic path at UBC, taking fine arts and education courses, graduating with a B.Ed..

He taught for many years in BC smaller towns like Stewart before retiring - only after setting up a full hands-on printing course program in Vanderhoof high school. Retirement really meant just another art adventure.  After a move to Courtenay Jim re-started a closed screen printing business and started commercial screen printing for the Comox Valley.

Between running the business and hundreds of printing orders for the community, Jim did his own painting, drawing, political cartoons and serigraphs. His great love of nature is reflected in the subjects chosen for his serigraphs:  Sea Otters, Blue Heron, Steller’s Jay, hummingbirds, Orcas, Humpback and Blue Whales among others.

Jim’s legacy lives on in his prints, paintings and many multi-media pieces which can be enjoyed in the Silver Bowerbird Gallery above Hitec Screen Printing-Brazen Sportswear,  4th St., downtown Courtenay.
